- Thomas Ware and Sons Limited, established in 1840, remain the biggest of the of the traditional leather tanneries.
Best known in the shoe trade, they supply quality sole leather to the shoe manufacturing and repair markets, industrial leathers including flat & round leather belting & friction leathers, speciality leathers including alum tanned leathers for cricket balls and Individually hand crafted leather floor tiles (Regency Range) with a unique method of creating an antique patina from day one, like French polished furniture.
Hides, rounded into butts/bends, shoulders and leather floor tiles each individually hand crafted (Regency Range), are tanned and finished using traditional materials in a process that can take up to 18 months from Limeyard to finished products, thereby ensuring the highest quality leather.
The ongoing Product development programme means that several new products will be introduced in the next 12 months
While an on going modernisation programme continues to improve efficiency and effectiveness, with the introduction of computer aided cutting machines, CAD/CAM and the gradual updating of all machinery, with new splitting buffing & spaying additions.
Consequently the traditional leather skills have not been lost, but simply updated for these modern times, ensuring TWS continues successfully into the future.
